With the visual aid of one of the most recognizable brands on the planet, I incorporated world history with modern day iconography to give a reminder to ongoing issues in Africa. The color on each canvas is a mirror image of the flag that represents 1 of the 7 countries that took a stronghold in the colonization of this mineral rich continent. Alongside the natural resource that they stole from this land being shown as the element from the Periodic Table, which is typically the initials of the luggage owner. The interesting concept behind suitcases and the preserved safety and comfort they give us by blocking out the world around it/ us is something I often like to tap into. While challenging myself to see how realistic I can actually make these with my own hands to showcase possible limitations that we place on ourselves.

Illustrating one of the main components (soda/pop) that contain extreme amounts of artificial sugar (esp. in America) that is contributing to a list of growing health concerns around the world. The distribution of this unnatural substance is directly related to the increased amount of people suffering from heart disease, diabetes, obesity and a number of other health issues around the globe. In addition, companies in the food industry are given exclusive/legal rights over naturally grown plant substances (such as the coca leaf) that have been used by indigenous people for centuries, resulting in monopoly based business ethics. Making it more difficult to obtain clean drinking water in certain countries than a substance that contains more sugar in one bottle/can than the human body should ever ingest.

In three-dimensional space, the 5 Platonic solids are regular, convex polyhedron that is named after the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. Not only are they connected to the classic elements (Fire, Air, Earth, Water) but they are also found throughout every element within the Periodic Table. This knowledge not only allows one to feel connected to every living entity on this planet but also with the known universe as a whole. The fact that we share the smallest parts of our biological system with stars millions of light years away will hopefully bring confidence that anything is possible and no one is truly alone.
Part of Ongoing Flag Series/ Mix media on canvas- 36’’x 60’’ (Aerosol paint, acrylic paint, gold foil, illustration board)-
The city of Chicago is historically known for its architecture, educational institutions, and international meeting place for business. Along with corrupt political leaders (followed by the highest taxation in the country), the largest gentrification process in American history and segregation unlike any other major US city. What the outside looking in is given more than anything else, however, is a small and forgotten area of the city being represented by gun violence/ gang activity with the actual cause behind these ‘side effects’ designed to fade into the back. While the gentrification process in Chicago is the largest in American history, with 90% of those affected being people of color, displacing over 40,000 individuals and families out of their generational home and root/ support system. With the extra (5th) star representing the creative’s in Chicago that are changing the landscape of the city for the better advocating tolerance and compassion.

Paying homage to the late great Robert Indiana, this set of work adopts the concept of “LOVE” in the 21 century in connection to the holy union known as marriage. With each canvas representing a different reason for this act outside of the traditional justification for such an event'; to showcase the unification of two people based on love. The various languages act as not only a point of reference for multiple cultures but as a statement that no matter your background, this act can have many different goals and objectives. Individually, the paintings contain iconic wedding symbols and imagery that are synonymous with the visual field of such a celebration on this special day. Not at all to be confused with any negative connotation with the concept of marriage, but to simply speak on the topic with a different perspective that could help those that can relate a sense of normality.
-10 pc. set/ Mixed Media on canvas- 18" x 24" (Aerosol paint. paint marker, gold foil, illustration board)-
The visual aid of the common household "Arm & Hammer" Baking Soda box is used in this array of paintings. Along with cleaning and cooking, baking soda is a well-known ingredient in the production of crack cocaine. The text "Baking Soda" is replaced on the boxes with unlikely words that are synonyms with the distribution/use of this drug. Giving a different perspective on why such an activity is in existence in the first place, thus ending the toxic mentally of treating these individuals as ‘criminals’ but understanding their backgrounds. Repetition is so prominent in this series due to its importance/relevance within current issues.
